Meet Dr. Harleen Bawa, PT, DPT

Dr. Harleen Bawa has been a licensed Physical Therapist in New York since 2007.

She specializes in the treatment of scoliosis, spine rehabilitation, and musculoskeletal injuries. In 2003, Dr. Bawa graduated from MS Ramaiah Medical College in India with a degree in Physical Therapy. She then pursued her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at the University of New England. She has advanced her physical therapy career with post-graduate certificate training in the following: Mulligan Technique, Myofascial Release, Kinesio Taping, and Trigger-point therapy.

Dr. Bawa is certified in Schroth Scoliosis Therapy, a conservative scoliosis treatment that originated in Germany,by the following:

  • ISST (International Schroth 3D Scoliosis Therapy). Method (Asklepios Clinic, Germany).
  • BSPTS (Barcelona Scoliosis Physical Therapy School)
  • SEAS therapy (Scientific Exercises Approach to Scoliosis), a conservative method for treatment of scoliosis developed by ISICO (Istituto Scientifico Italiano Colonna Vertebrale, or Italian Spine Scientific Institute).

She is a member of the Society for Scoliosis Orthopedic & Rehabilitation Treatment (SOSORT) and APTA (American Physical Therapy Association). .

Dr. Bawa believes in not just treating the condition but helping people achieve their goals and restore normal function. She utilizes an integrated manual therapy approach reinforced by therapeutic exercise and functional training. She is passionate about helping those with scoliosis, conservatively to halt progression of the curve and to relieve pain. She takes a holistic approach to each patient's entire well-being and educates them about wellness and healthy lifestyle.

Dr. Bawa has also pursued pelvic floor treatment specialization from Herman and Wallace institute for pelvic rehab. She treats woman during their  pregnancy and postnatally addressing issues involved with  pelvic girdle, low back pain, tummy muscle separation (diastasis recti abdominis (DRA)) and other pelvic floor dysfunctions including stress urinary incontinence. Dr. Bawa has a keen interest in the return to sport and fitness postnatally and rehabilitating women through pelvic floor injury or dysfunction to full fitness.

In addition to her clinical expertise, Dr. Bawa is also a National  Pilates certified teacher. Her training at Polestar Institute consisted of  Reformer, Trapeze Table and Mat Pilates exercises. She uses the principles and exercises of Pilates and integrates them in her treatment protocol.

Meet Kecia Chin

Kecia Chin specializes in teaching people the efficient and effective use of the body to prevent and reverse degenerative posture and movement habits that cause chronic, painful conditions. Her formula for success is Movement + Strength + Optimal Balance + Endurance + Fun = Peak Performance!

Kecia’s background includes ballet, modern dance, cross country track, acting and singing. She earned a scholarship to Carnegie Mellon University as a theater major. As part of the curriculum she was required to learn Form vs. Function – how to use the body at peak performance for all the basic movements of daily life (walking, sitting, standing, bending, twisting and turning). Her post graduate work includes the American Center for Alexander Technique and has been an instructor since 1999 with 26,000 hours of independent study and professional teaching. She studied Bikram’s Hot Yoga for 4 years and is a certified Ashtananga Yoga instructor. Kecia has never suffered any injuries and attributes that to her vast knowledge of the proper workings of the body.

  • Patient Centered Practice -- Dr.Bawa and staff believe in providing you, our patient,with individualized treatment plan that complements your rehabilitation as well as your personal goals. As a patient, you receive a complete one-hour session with hands-on treatment. Every patient is educated about their condition and is expected to follow specific home exercises, in addition to treatment, to strengthen their rehabilitation progress.
  • Creating a Safe Environment -- We believe in providing you with a safe environment in which to rehabilitate. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our patients complete a COVID-19 form prior to their evaluation. In our office, we take every person’s temperature as they enter, and we sanitize ALL our equipment and common areas. We also ensure that our patients are physically safe while using any Pilates or rehab equipment by educating and teaching you how to safely and effectively use them.
