Understanding a Different Perspective on Scoliosis

While scoliosis is commonly labeled as a spinal condition, Dr. Alex Kaminsky emphasizes that the root cause does not begin in the spine itself. Instead, scoliosis may develop from unresolved emotional experiences, energetic imbalances, or birth-related trauma that become “stuck” in the body. These unresolved stresses can disrupt the body’s energetic system (Chakras, Meridians, Biofield), leading to muscular contractions that gradually pull the spine out of alignment.

In this view, scoliosis is not simply a matter of bones twisting—it is the body’s deeper energetic and muscular response to unresolved experiences.

How Emotions, the Nervous System, and Muscle Contraction Connect to Scoliosis

  • The autonomic nervous system (parasympathetic and sympathetic) helps regulate muscle tone.

  • When unresolved trauma or emotions disrupt this balance, specific muscle groups may remain in a constant state of contraction (hypertonicity).

  • These tight, shortened muscles exert continuous pull on the spine, leading to curvature.

Research increasingly acknowledges that the nervous system and the body’s energetic system overlap, meaning disruptions at an energetic level can directly affect physical structure and posture.

The Craniosacral Mechanism & Scoliosis

The Craniosacral Mechanism is the system that governs cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow, cranial mobility, and the body’s musculoskeletal function.

  • CSF flow acts as a conductor of life force throughout the body. When disrupted by stored trauma or energetic blockages, muscle tone changes, leading to chronic contraction.

  • Cranial mobility—the subtle movement of cranial bones first identified by Dr. William Sutherland—ensures proper CSF circulation. If cranial sutures are jammed or restricted, scoliosis may form as the body adapts to imbalance.

  • As Dr. Harold Magoon stated: “Spinal scoliosis and cranial scoliosis are inseparable.”

In short: the spine itself does not move on its own. Muscles, controlled by the nervous and energetic system, dictate spinal position. Restoring fluid movement, cranial balance, and emotional release may allow scoliosis reversal rather than just management.

Infant & Pediatric Scoliosis: A Birth Connection

In infants, scoliosis often originates during the birthing process. Pulling, twisting, or compressing a baby’s head can misalign cranial bones, restricting CSF flow and triggering spinal curvature.

What to look for in infants with possible cranial imbalance:

  • Uneven or asymmetrical head shape

  • One ear higher or more prominent than the other

  • Uneven forehead, jaw, or mouth position

  • Flattened area on one side of the head

If these features are present alongside a scoliosis diagnosis, careful cranial evaluation is recommended. Releasing cranial sutural jamming and restoring CSF flow may allow the spine to straighten naturally.

Adult-Onset Scoliosis

Adults can also develop scoliosis later in life, often triggered by emotional trauma, stress, or physical injury that becomes stored in the body. The same mechanism—energetic disruption, muscular contraction, and cranial imbalance—applies to adult cases as well.

Why Craniosacral Therapy for Scoliosis?

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) uses light, hands-on contact to:

  • Release stuck or unresolved emotional energy stored in tissues

  • Improve CSF flow and cranial mobility

  • Relax overactive, contracted muscles that pull the spine out of balance

  • Restore harmony between the nervous system and the energetic system

This approach aims not for small corrections, but for the possibility of true reversal and spontaneous regression of scoliosis, especially when treatment begins early in life.
